This question gets asked quite a lot and my answer is always “ it’s a long story, but I really had a passion for it.” Since a young age I always remembered watching Cake Boss. It was by far my favorite show and I always had a desire to one day make cakes that were “good enough” for other people. Watching cake decorating videos took up alot of my time.

 

Moving on to my motivation, my Papaw, who is now passed on. He was always a number one supporter of me and always told me “ if you want it to happen and want to be successful, make it happen.” So that’s what happened. I was “Papa’s Girl.” He sent me out with the money to purchase all my beginning tools and eventually bought me my first Kitchen Aid mixer after blowing up two of my Nanny's.

He was very sick the last years of his life and was never really able to leave the house, so baking was a way of bonding for us. 

He knew absolutely nothing about decorating a cake, but he sure thought he did. He was my biggest critic and boy did it aggravate me to death sometimes.​

​

He would sit in his electric scooter at the end of the table and tell me every flaw of the cake and what would make it look better. Again, my biggest critic, but would hype that cake up once it was finished!

The last cake I made with his 'supervision' was a sunflower cake for my Nanny's birthday. He passed in 2017 and making that first cake without him was certainly odd.

 

I am forever grateful for the endless memories we made together over some cakes.
